X-rays, also referred to as radiography, provide a quick view of the internal structure of the body, particularly of bones. X-rays can be used to diagnose fractures, dislocated joints, tumors and degenerative conditions and blockages.
Preparing for an x-ray
- Tell your provider if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant. X-rays use safe amounts of radiation to make these images but can harm a fetus in utero.
- Wear comfortable clothing that does not contain metal.
- Do not wear jewelry.
- Avoid wearing lotion or perfumes.
