VISITORS
With a commitment to the health and safety of our patients, families and community, we recognize the role loved ones play in the healing process and are committed to providing our patients with an environment that is both warm, supportive and safely designed to prevent infection.
As of July 18, 2022, the following is Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital's visitor policy*:

General Expectations
- Adherence to hospital policies, such as hand hygiene and masking, is required
- Help us provide a safe, healing environment; violence and/or inappropriate behavior/language will not be tolerated
- Groups will not congregate in hallways or other areas that may impede pedestrian traffic
- Seating in designated waiting areas will be prioritized for patients
- Visitor must be able to provide self-care while at the facility; care teams will not be able to provide care for visitors
- Assist us in maintaining a clean, welcoming environment for all our patients and visitors by reducing clutter, ensuring that food and drink are minimized outside of the cafeteria, and disposing of all trash appropriately
- Spiritual Care Providers do not count toward visitor limitation
- Care Partner – assists/cares for patient outside of hospital, aids in decision-making related to care
Inpatient – Standard Precautions
- Total of 2 visitors/care partners at bedside at a time
- Visitors may switch throughout the day and can be in waiting areas and common spaces in the facility
- To ensure adequate space for visitors of all our patients, the total number of visitors in the building will be limited to 6 at a time
- Care Partner may be at bedside 7 AM – 9 PM
- Visitors may be at the bedside 9 AM – 9 PM
- Visitors must be ≥ 12 years old; visitors <18 years old must be accompanied by an adult
- Exception requests will be reviewed by the House Supervisor
Inpatient – COVID+/Transmission-Based Precautions
- Total of 2 visitors/care partners at bedside at a time
- Visitors must remain the same for a given day, but may switch each day
- Care Partner may be at bedside 7 AM – 9 PM
- Visitors may be at the bedside 9 AM – 9 PM
- Visitors must be ≥ 18 years old
- All precautions must be followed, as directed by the care team
- Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be utilized; instructions for use will be given by the care team
- If a visitor is unable (or unwilling) to wear PPE, the risks of visiting without appropriate PPE will be explained by the care team; visitor will be instructed that they must stay in the patient room or exit the facility
- Exception requests will be reviewed by the House Supervisor
ICU
- Total of 2 visitors/care partners at bedside at a time – may switch throughout the day
- Care Partner may be at bedside 24/7
- If care partners are staying outside of normal visiting hours, they are expected to remain at the bedside
- If care partner leaves the facility during non-visiting hours, they will not be allowed to re-enter until normal visiting hours
- Visitors may be at the bedside 9 AM – 9 PM
- Visitors must be ≥ 18 years old
- Exception requests will be reviewed by the House Supervisor
OB
- Care Partner may be at bedside 24/7
- Labor Coach may be at bedside, without restriction, during labor and delivery
- Post-Partum, additional visitors will be allowed 9 AM – 9 PM
- Visitors <18 years old must be accompanied by an adult
- Exception requests will be reviewed by the Charge Nurse
NICU
- 2 Designated Care Partners may be at the bedside 24/7
- 1-2 additional visitors will be allowed 9 AM – 9 PM if space allows and does not impede care being provided
- Visitors must be ≥ 12 years old; visitors <18 years old must be accompanied by an adult
- Exception requests will be reviewed by the Charge Nurse
Pediatric
- 2 Designated Care Partners may be at the bedside 24/7
- 1-2 additional visitors will be allowed 9 AM – 9 PM if space allows and does not impede care being provided
- Visitors must be ≥ 12 years old; visitors <18 years old must be accompanied by an adult
- Exception requests will be reviewed by the Charge Nurse
End of Life
- Up to 4 visitors/care partners may be at the bedside 24/7 – may switch throughout the day
- Visitors <18 years old must be accompanied by an adult
- Exception requests will be reviewed by the House Supervisor
ED
- 1 visitor may be at the bedside when patient is stable and in an ED room
- 1 Additional visitor (total 2) may be at bedside if it does not impede care being provided
- Visitors may switch throughout the stay, unless patient is on transmission-based precautions
- Visitors will be allowed in waiting room; visitors may be limited to 1 per patient as needed for space constraints
- Visitors may be restricted for patients in Hallway Beds
- Exception requests will be reviewed by the Charge Nurse
Clinic/OP
- Total of 2 visitors/care providers may be present if space allows
Outpatient Surgery
- Up to 2 visitors/care providers may accompany patient while in the facility
- Only 1 visitor/care provider will be allowed in the PACU pre- and post-procedure
- Visitors must be ≥ 12 years old; visitors <18 years old must be accompanied by an adult
- Exception requests will be reviewed by the Charge Nurse
Patients are encouraged to have Virtual Visitors through phone calls, FaceTime and other virtual methods. In cases where patients are unable to do so on their own, the care team will help facilitate virtual visits through the BJC Virtual Visitor Program.
MASKING
Patients, visitors and staff must wear face masks at all BJC HealthCare facilities. Review complete masking guidelines.
PARKING
If you are coming to the hospital and dropping off a patient, during normal business hours and in non-emergency situations, you can use the circle drive and park where available. Please avoid parking in the Emergency Department lots, unless you are visiting the Emergency Room. You will be given a phone number where you can check in on the patient if you wait in the car or go home to wait.
TESTING
At this time, patients coming in for surgeries and some procedures are required to be tested for COVID-19 as part of the standard pre-procedure process. We will work with you to schedule the test and refer you to the proper testing site.
CAFETERIA
The Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital café is located on the first floor and offers a wide selection food. Options include classic American cuisine to ethnic fair, entrees, vegetables, grab-and-go options, snacks and more. It is open to the public and hours are as follows, but are subject to change:
- Monday through Friday from 6:30 to 10 a.m., 10:45 a.m. to 2 p.m., 4:45 to 6:30 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday from 8 to 9:45 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Guest trays are available for a nominal fee. To request a guest tray, contact the food and nutrition department at 636.916.9434.
PATIENT ROOMS
To help protect you the entire time of your stay, our environmental services teams remains focused on CDC protocols to disinfect high-touch areas in patient rooms such as door handles, light switches, and tables. The lounging chairs in patient rooms are made of textiles that are easily cleaned. Traffic in and out of patient rooms is limited to essential staff and visitors.
