Sleep is an essential component of good health. Consequently, sleep disorders not only affect how you sleep, but also can impair your daytime functioning. Symptoms of a sleep disorder often go unrecognized and untreated. Without help, an individual's quality of life can suffer, and untreated sleep disorders can lead to or contribute to other medical conditions.

The Sleep and Breathing Lab features a home-like setting designed for comfort and privacy. The Lab staff is dedicated to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of a variety of sleep disorders. Individuals experiencing one or more of the following symptoms may benefit from a sleep study:
|
|
- Narcolepsy
- Obstructive sleep apnea
- Restless Leg Syndrome, or RLS
- Other sleep-related breathing difficulties
Diagnostic Testing
The Sleep and Breathing Lab features point-of-service registration. Primary care physicians refer patients to the lab for an outpatient procedure known as a polysomnogram (sleep study), which is performed overnight. A registered polysomnographic technologist specializing in sleep disorders monitors each patient overnight. The technician places small electrodes on the patient's skin to monitor several biologic patterns, such as brain waves, muscle activity, heart rate, breathing and snoring. The technologists score the studies, which are interpreted by physicians board-certified in sleep medicine.
Often those with insomnia-related complaints require other techniques and evaluation to treat and manage the condition. The primary care physician may want to refer these patients directly to a sleep physician for evaluation, which may include diagnostic testing.
Most insurance plans cover diagnostic sleep testing and evaluations. The Sleep and Breathing Lab accepts a range of insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid.
