Relaxation is a major principle in T’ai Chi, which also promotes emotional well-being.

LIVEN Lifestyle Intervention with Exercise and Nutrition
NEW IN 2007! A unique new program for breast cancer survivors. Research leads us to the conclusion that women, after a breast cancer experience who are active and do not gain weight, are less likely to have a breast cancer recurrence. The Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital will provide nutritional consultation, physical therapy and social services at a minimal fee for women under the care of a Siteman oncologist. This program will focus on health (not the scale) in a supportive environment. A breast cancer specialist will oversee the program and assist the women in reaching their goals. Ten to twenty percent of Americans come down with the flu each year. Most cases leave a person feeling “under the weather” with a fever, headache, cough, sore throat, chills and fatigue. But in some cases, the flu-like symptoms can be severe, causing hospitalization. Flu shots are recommended for people over the age of 50, especially those with a chronic illness. This class is for children age 3-9 and focuses on the special relationships between new babies and their sisters and brothers. Newborn behaviors and care as well as feelings about the baby are discussed. A short tour of the maternity unit is included.

Support Groups Offer Emotional Assistance

When illness strikes, people face more than just physical symptoms, especially in the case of chronic disorders. Emotional concerns can weigh on the mind and affect overall health. Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital hosts a variety of support groups to help you cope.

These groups are FREE of charge and meet in the HealthWise Center, Suite 117, Professional Building I, 6 Jungermann Circle, on the hospital campus unless otherwise stated.

KidsCan!

KidsCan! is a program designed to support children ages 4-12 who have a parent or significant caregiver with a diagnosis of cancer. It provides opportunities for kids to express their feelings through various activities in a safe and protective environment with a trained facilitator.
